Good ones this week
I've been thinking about what I should do next, and among ideas as ridiculous and diverse as becoming a doctor and then a lawyer and then finishing a degree full time, part time then distance learning, I'm yet to settle on anything. I might do some sort of IT related qualification. But might not! I'm working for the cooncil still on a ongoing temp contract, and everyone thinks I'm great there because I actually come in every day, and work all day and don't whinge endlessly about having to actually do my job. [Sandy]
think positive about the job. it won't make any quantitative
difference but if you get it you'll be able to convince yourself that
it helped, and if you don't get it you'll be disabused of the
ridiculous notion that thinking positively about a remote decision
process you can't influence is in any way a productive use of time and
energy. good luck!
oh, that last paragraph was my grab for getting quoted on maus congeniality. [Chris]
I'm really enjoying Numb3t2rs now. I should have a whole new bunch of them to watch when I get back to Exeter. I just watched the one where there is a big DNA computer stolen, which fortunately could be used by terrorists, or else the FBI wouldn't have got involved. Instead of just saying, "let's check out that guy's history", which the FBI may have thought of, the young maths guy said something like, "each person sends out ripples like a stone or something and maths could be used to see what the ripples are. If you look at all the ripples then you can draw a picture of the person's life." To which everyone should have said, "a bit like looking at his history then?" [Tim]
I dont remember what she had , it was at Ottakars (a place that i always dream about!?) and i was serving what i thought to be an 8 year old goth. No, it was Christina Ricci. Very small. Apparently she was going though a 'i'm friends with courtney Love' stage. [Mike]
In other news, I read the follow up to that goths study you linked to. Apparently, jocks are more likely to engage in towel whipping and horseplay.
(which reminds me...Goth of the week)
Msn
Tim: What you up to? I'm watching 'she's the man' - it's ok to good
Maus: haha did you download it?
Tim: yes - only because i saw an advert on the telly for it. It looks like it might be predictable, which is predictable in itself
Maus: i thought it looked entertaining
Tim: the actress playing the girl/boy is quite good - good at doing looks
Maus: right. is it anyone famous?
Tim: like she makes a joke, and then does the look that indicates she found it funny
[...later]
Maus: just watched "she's the man"
Tim: did you like it?
Maus: guilty pleasure, yeah
Maus: unfortunately it was a camcorder-in-the-cinema download job
Tim: it's the best football film i've seen, and the only film that i thought vinnie jones was any good in
Tim: yeah my version was too, but it was still ok
Tim: did you have people walking in front of the screen?
Maus: yeah ahah
Maus: i thought it was on a par with bend it like beckham
Tim: it was better than bend it like beckham - funnier, without serious overtones, which i think bilb had
Tim: i was trying to get ben to watch it as he likes football, but he didn't want to
Tim: you'd think it would be the ideal film for someone who was into football
Maus: ...yes
Maus: good high kick at the end
Tim: i'm not sure if that goal is allowed, as it was a penalty - i'm not really sure how it works though
Maus: didn't think much of the jock she fancied
Tim: i didn't understand how they were just friends when he thought she was a man, but when he found out she was a girl he fancied her and kissed her - like the only thing stopping him before was his belief she had male genitalia
Tim: i thought it might take a bit longer for him to come around
Maus: and that hair cut
Tim: yes - didn't look good on him or her
Maus: wee jimmy krankee
Tim: !
Maus: is that a picture of a really really fat cat
Peter: yes its the fattest cat in the world
Peter: from russia, no less
Maus: aw
Maus: did you watch "fat pets" the other day
Peter: no i will download it
Peter: i love large animals
Maus: hehe
Maus: like fat bob?
Peter: i want a whippet but they dont get very fat
Peter: fat ben!
Maus: haha sorry
Peter: and prince the dog who had to do handstands to do a wee
Maus: yes
Maus: on fat pets there are two humungous rottweilers
Maus: just like big dribbling barrels whose legs keep giving way
Peter: is it called 'fat p[ets'?
Maus: "fat pets"
Peter: brilliant
Maus: have you seen richard herring's new poster
ben: no
ben: what's he doing in it?
Maus: http://richardherring.com/warmingup/view.php?i=1253&f=108
Maus: a bit windswept
ben: yikes
ben: that's terrifying
ben: you could have warned me
